Portraiture calls for dramatic lighting

It's a wet and nasty day on the coast so I decided to stay indoors and try a little creative lighting exercise. This is with the Sigma 105 2.8 macro.

Big Rig

I had to go to Ingleside TX this morning to work on a furnace. On the way back, I saw this big jack-up rig being towed by five tug boats. They took it into the Kiewit yard on La Quinta channel. It was quite a spectacle.

Little tug...Big flag

Caught the "Brown Tide" in the Intracoastal Waterway just off of Conn Brown Harbor in Aransas Pass TX. She belongs to Brown Water Marine Services in Rockport. All of Brown Water's boats have the word brown in their names. I don't know the reason she was flying the over-sized colors but she looked very smart and proud.

It's a twofer Sunday

While I was in Port A today, I caught these bottle nosed dolphins leading a Chinese Tanker through the jetties. They were having a great time! As always, you can click on the image for a larger size.

Still crazy...

What do middle aged guys do on a cold, windy December Sunday on the gulf coast? Try to catch a wave dude, what else? Taken at Port Aransas, TX

OK, I know it's not 2009 yet but I was in Fulton, TX today and these guys were begging to have their picture taken. It was "standing room only"!

A shot from 08 to try to figure out what I'm doing...
Hi all, I'm John and it's my intention to put up one picture a day for the year 2009. I have challenged myself to capture at least one decent photograph each and every day of the year and to share them here. I hope you'll follow along on my quest.
