Realtor's Challenge and 13Y

This old shack sits beside Hwy 35 Business, just north of Aransas Pass. Every time I pass by I smile at the "for sale" sign. I spotted this juvenile brown pelican down at Conn Brown. He was wearing jewelry on both ankles...these kids today!!

Feather Day

Well, today, if it wore feathers it got shot at. My friend Wendy went to the refuge yesterday and that gave me the itch!

Funny Ricky Again and the Devil Dog

The boat called Funny Ricky is hauled out at Aransas Marine Ways. It's pretty interesting to see these big gulf trawlers pulled up on the ways. The Devil Dog is my boy Scooter. He's a black tongued, curly tailed character that brings me, in just about equal measure, a lot of joy and aggravation. He's one of those headstrong independent critters that keeps you on your toes. I love him dearly!

Yea Coast Guard

You know, the Coast Guard not only saves lives by rescuing mariners in distress, they also save them by maintaining all the aids to navigation; channel markers, bouys, beacons, range markers and electronic navaids. The Mallet and the crane barge go around fixin stuff up. Yea Coast Guard. I think they do a great job.

Little Blue Heron and Pintail

I had to go to Rockport this morning to file some papers at the courthouse and I figured I might as well scout around a bit. I wound up across the bridge, in Lamar. These beauties were just waiting for me. I was especially happy to see the Little Blue Heron...haven't seen one for a while. Although they are considerably smaller than the Great Blue Heron, they still impress me. I love their coloring.

Identity Crisis and Ol' Slimy Foot

Another beautiful day on the coast...little windy though. Caught these birds in the brackish ponds just over the bridge from the harbor. There was a tri-colored heron there too but he was a little too wily for me today and I never got a satisfactory shot. The tug is going through an identity crisis...she's got Eckstein Marine written on the side but she's still wearing Marquette colors, even has ol' Pere Marquette paddling his canoe on the stack. Just whose girl IS the Corpus Christi?

Funny Ricky

So, I see this boat down at the harbor and I'm wondering...what's so funny about Ricky? I don't have a clue about the story behind the boat's name but I bet it would be an interesting tale.

Winter Day Adventurers

My friend Jan from Austin was in town visiting family this weekend. We try to get out and shoot a picture or two when she's in town so we went out to the bay to look for birds. It was pretty cold and miserable and we were bundled up like arctic was fun though!

Windy Day for Nest Building

It was a windy day for nest building but the Great Blue Heron contingent at Conn Brown Harbor were soldiering on. I got to witness one of them lay the very first auspicious beginning!

How it's Done

I was out at Steadman Point this afternoon and this Great Blue Heron gave me a lesson in how it's done. Then he auditioned for the leading role for a PR spot for the City of Aransas Pass. The view towards Ingleside Point was pretty nice too.

Rusty Princess

It was another busy day with not much time for photography. I DID manage a short trip to the harbor and grabbed a quick shot of this boat. She's the Princess Johana and she's from Port Lavaca. I'd say she's overdue for a haul-out and paint job!

Slippin' Past the Light

I went to Harbor Island today, just across the channel from the Port A lighthouse. To my delight, I spotted this shrimper coming out of Aransas Pass, headed for the "blue water". This is a sight, once common, that just doesn't appear very often. It was a Brownsville boat but at least the old harbor still gets to see a gulf boat now and then.

Ducks and Skimmers

I found some Mottled Ducks today and they were visited by a killdeer. The Skimmers were around too but the light was so bright that I couldn't keep from blowing the highlights.

Endangered Species

I confined my travels to the harbor this afternoon. I had to laugh at the battle between the little boy and the pelican. These birds are so accustomed to getting handouts from the fishermen that most of their fear is gone. After this encounter, this particular specimen might just rethink his strategy. By the way, the boy never landed a blow with the palm frond but he did get quite a reaction.

Winter on the Bay

It wasn't too cold today but it sure looked like winter. I spent the afternoon at the harbor and out by the ferry landing on Harbor Island. I got the Great Blue Heron shots at Steadman Point.

Harbor black and white

It was a cold, damp, windy day today so I didn't venture far from the house.
