F Is For...

Flag...not just A flag...THE flag! This one is flying in front of The Aransas Pass Convention Center.

F is also for Fire Department. The AP fire station is right next door to the convention center. The two old raggedy looking trucks out front are the departments brush trucks. We have a lot of brush and grass fires around here and the department guys rig up these trucks to deal with them. The city buys army surplus trucks and the firefighters rig them out with tanks, pumps, brush guards and skid plates. They may not look too purty but they do a heck of a job and get a lot of use.

My friend Wendy says I'm always in the right place at the right time. I guess that was true today. Just as I was getting ready to shoot the fire station, the alarm went off and they rolled out on a call...so, F is for Fire truck in front of the Fire station! AP has a small contingent of paid firefighters and a group of volunteers. There are usually at least 2 of the paid guys in the station. When they get the call, they roll and the volunteers follow along, mostly in their own vehicles, to provide the required manpower...seems to work pretty well!

Our Texas flag is beautiful, isn't it? Bless the fire departments and firemen paid or volenteers. They are certainly getting a workout this year with the drought we've having.
